What do you get when you combine Swiss craftsmanship with a passion for brewing delicious coffee? Jura coffee machines. These are Swiss-made, high-end appliances that come with a price tag to match. But, the choice of Jura machines is anything but simple.
There are over ten Jura coffee machines, all of which have a similar stainless steel look and unintuitive naming system. I’ll let you in on a secret — the higher the letter and number in the machine name, the better the device.
And, if you want the answer right away, here are my top choices:
- Best overall: E8 (latest technologies, easy to use, and mid-price range)
- Budget pick: ENA4 (espresso only, but has the latest features at a great price)
- High-end choice: GIGA 6 (good for an office or small restaurant)
Today, I’ll talk about everything there’s to know about Jura machines, including our pick of the best models, and a buying guide, so you can choose the best one for you.
About Jura: What Makes Their Machines Special
Jura is a Switzerland-based brand that manufactures super-automatic coffee machines. You can get an espresso or a specialty coffee with a press of a button in your own home.
Jura was founded in 1931 by Leo Henzirohs. The company started by making home appliances, but nowadays, they focus on coffee machines.
Jura manufactures coffee machines with functions such as Artificial Intelligence, Pulse Extraction Process, Intelligent Water System, and more. These names sound fancy, but they are more than a marketing gimmick — Jura uses technology that really replicates true espresso brewing and extraction. The machine grinds coffee beans fresh and brews hot beverages.
A Jura coffee machine has numerous drink options and customization. Depending on the model, you can set up individual user preferences and brew several specialty drinks automatically. Super-automatic espresso machines can be confusing to use, but Jura is straightforward.
Jura also pays attention to the exterior. These machines are all sleek, durable, and stylish. Overall, Jura machines produce aromatic espresso and coffee drinks using true espresso technology.
However, these are by no means budget machines. They make great espresso at a price, so we’ll give you a complete list of the best Jura coffee machines for your money.
Jura Technologies
The list of Jura lingo could go on and on, but here are the most important technical terms you should know when shopping for the best Jura coffee machine:
Aroma G3 Grinder
All Jura coffee machines come with an integrated aroma grinder. The G3 grinder has stainless steel and adjustable conical burrs with multiple settings. Coffee grind size is very important for coffee quality, and the key is a consistently fine grind. The G3 is an upgrade over the G2, where the burrs are more consistent at those fine levels for proper extraction. The added bonus is the Jura Aroma G3 Grinder is quiet too, which maintains the morning calm before you get the coffee.
Pulse Extraction System (P.E.P)
P.E.P. is the method Jura espresso machines use to extract coffee from the grinds. This function brews coffee by pulsing water through the grounds at short intervals. There’s optimum extraction time, and the beans are fully developed. You get consistently extracted flavorful espresso.
Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS)
IPBAS soaks the coffee grounds before brewing, which aids the extraction process, adds more flavor to the coffee, and helps you have silky smooth espresso crema. This is the same as pre-infusion used by many semi-automatic espresso machines, or commonly known as coffee bloom.
Fine Foam Technology (FFT)
FFT is the process where Juras froth the milk twice in separate chambers and then slowly pour the milk foam into the drink. FFT creates a nice microfoam with a creamy consistency.
Intelligent Water System (IWS)
This system runs internal tests to record info about your water and filters (how hard the water is, etc.). IWS lets you know when it’s time for maintenance, change the filter, run a cleaning cycle, and more. This feature keeps your machine in top shape, so you don’t have to descale often. Finally, you have the cleanest water, which enhances the coffee taste.
Jura Operating Experience (JOE)
This is Jura’s app. It allows you to use your Jura coffee machine from your phone or a tablet via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. You can control the brew parameters from the app and customize the drink according to your preferences. You can also add JOE to Apple’s Siri and use voice control to get a coffee. However, not all Jura coffee machines have JOE.
Jura Lineup: Understanding the Naming System
Jura recently discontinued the A and D lines. This means the ENA is the entry-level line, and this article has been updated to add the E4 and refurbished options for the Z6. Overall, Jura is firmly moving into the “premium category” of espresso machines.
Before listing out the models, it’s worth explaining Jura’s alphanumeric naming system. Each Jura coffee machine has a letter and a number in its name. The higher the letter and number, the bigger the size and the better the features.
The letters tell you where a machine falls in the Jura product range. Letters that come later in the alphabet have more capacity, more drink options, and better displays. This means, for example, the A and D series are entry-level. A Jura coffee machine labeled E falls in the mid-range. It’s not a basic device, but it’s also not a high-end machine that costs thousands of dollars. Z-series and Giga series are reserved for superb devices with the highest price points. To make it confusing, there is an ENA line, which sits somewhere between A and E with a smaller size yet nice display.
If you’re buying an espresso machine for home, a A, E, or ENA model will do. the S, Z, and GIGA lines are much more powerful and expensive.
The number in the model name also correlates to features. The higher the number, the better the machine. The 4-models usually don’t have a milk frother, while the 8-models come with fully automatic milk frothers. Higher model numbers have more Jura technologies too, like the Aroma G3 grinder of FFT.
I like to choose a 6-model or higher for good milk frothing, but if you only want espresso, go with ENA4 and spend on beans.
Also, the higher the letter and the number, the bigger the Jura machine, so this means Z and Giga coffee machines take up a lot of counter space.

1. ENA 4
ENA 4 highlights:
- Water tank capacity 37.2 oz
- P.E.P extraction system
- No milk frother
Jura Ena 4 is one of the most basic Jura machines available. This automatic espresso machine doesn’t have a milk frother, so it’s an excellent choice for people who love espresso and black coffee and don’t want or need to froth milk.
Ena 4 has one Thermoblock heating system, which makes sense as there’s no milk frother to be heated. This basic machine is extremely easy to use. You don’t have to learn how to operate a steam wand or fiddle with milk foam settings. All you have to do is press a button, and black liquid will flow into your cup.
ENA 4 has a digital interface on the front with only four buttons. The interface provides more versatility than I initially thought. For example, you can adjust the coffee strength (the strength is shown in coffee bean symbols on the screen). Another button lets you choose between coffee and espresso, and you can select the amount of coffee dispensed (ENA 4 can dispense up to 8 oz).
This Jura machine comes in white and black, or as Jura sophistically calls it, the Metropolitan Black and Nordic White. I especially liked how the white pairs with the diamond pattern water tank on the side. The machine has sharp geometric angles like most other Jura coffee machines, but isn’t as sleek or glossy as higher-end devices.
ENA 4 is one of the most compact Jura machines. Its dimensions are 10.7 in x 12.7 in 17.5 in. Keep in mind the water tank is located to the side, which contributes to how much width you have to set apart for the machine. Overall, ENA 4 won’t hog too much of your kitchen counter real estate.
Finally, ENA 4 comes with the famous Jura technology. You can control the espresso machine from anywhere via JOE, Jura’s app. There’s the Aroma G3 grinder that lets you grind the beans in a lot of variations and store 4.4 oz of beans in the hopper. The water tank has a faux diamond cylindrical with a capacity of 37.2 oz and an Intelligent Water System that monitors the water quality and makes adjustments as needed.
The PEP is the reason Jura ENA 4 makes an excellent espresso. It soaks the coffee grounds in short bursts (pulses), so you get maximum extraction and flavor.
Pros
Adjustable coffee spout
Makes flavorful espresso
The most affordable Jura coffee machine
Compact size (depending on the user)
Cons
No milk frother
Basic display
Compact size (depending on the user)
2. ENA 8
ENA 8 highlights:
- 10 drink options
- Milk frother
- 37.2 oz water reservoir
ENA 8 is the high-end version of the ENA 4. This Jura espresso machine has 10 drink options and new Jura technology. Same as the ENA 4, it has a stylish diamond-patterned cylindrical tank on the side. This machine comes in four color options: Aluminum, Nordic White, Metropolitan Black, and Sunset Red, so it’s a great option if you want to add some color to your kitchen.
ENA 8 has a 2.8 in TFT display, which makes it easy to choose the drink you want. The screen shows high-res images of your selected drink. You can choose between espresso, espresso doppio, ristretto, coffee, macchiato, cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato, milk foam, and hot water. You can customize the drinks and choose between grind size, water temperature, and more.
This is another compact Jura espresso machine — its dimensions are 12.7 in height and 10.7 in width. If you’re limited on kitchen counter space and want a variety of drinks, this is a great option.
ENA 8 has Jura’s best brewing technologies, such as the Pulse Extraction system, which wets the ground coffee in pulses for better extraction, a multiple-level Aroma G3 grinder, and a Thermoblock heating system. You can make a variety of coffee drinks in under a minute.
The milk frother is the biggest feature that sets ENA 8 apart from ENA 4 — ENA 8 has it, while ENA 4 doesn’t. This is one of the simpler Jura milk frothers that makes foam for cappuccinos.
However, you can only brew one drink at a time. Moreover, the water reservoir is on the smaller side for a nicer model — 37.2 oz. If you plan to use this Jura coffee machine in a large household of coffee lovers or an office, this could be a dealbreaker. The bean container holds 4.4 oz, which is significantly less compared to higher-end Jura coffee machines.
Finally, you can use ENA 8 with Jura’s JOE app. The most frequently used coffee presets will automatically arrange themselves at the top of the touch screen’s homepage, which is a nice touch. You don’t have to scroll through all ten drinks to get to the one you like the most.
Note: Jura recently updated the ENA 8 model. The updated machine can make 15 drinks (most of which are the same as the original ENA 8, but with a double shot option). The updated version has some of the newest Jura technology, such as the intelligent pre-heating, and Wi-Fi connection. Interestingly, the milk frother and all the programming options remained the same. Overall, apart from the double shot option for some drinks, not much else changed.
Pros
Auto-cleaning feature for easy maintenance
Customizable coffee drinks
Easy-to-use display
Cons
Water tank and bean hopper on the smaller side
Has fewer features but isn’t much more affordable than more expensive Jura models
Power button on the back difficult to locate
3. E4
E4 highlights:
- 5 specialty drinks
- Hot water dispenser
- Pulse Extraction Process
Jura E4 makes five specialty drinks: espresso, double espresso, coffee, double coffee, and hot water. You’ll notice there aren’t any milk-based drinks on the list. This is because the E4 doesn’t have a milk frother. It’s a pretty straightforward machine, without a ton of bells and whistles that higher-end models have. If you only drink black magic and shudder at the thought of adding milk to your coffee, Jura E4 is the best Jura coffee machine for you.
The Jura E4 is a more budget-friendly model compared to its higher-end siblings, but it still has some cool features. One thing that caught my attention right away was the Professional Aroma Grinder. It promises 12.2% more aroma. I’m not sure how exactly Jura calculated this number, but trust me, you can smell the difference. It’s a treat for your senses early in the morning or after a long day.
The Pulse Extraction Process (PEP) is another cool feature. It’s designed to optimize extraction time, giving you a cup of coffee that’s full-bodied and rich. That’s a big win in my book.
One thing I appreciate is its programmability. You can adjust the amount of water used for each drink and choose between three coffee strength levels. It’s nice to have some customization without going overboard.
The water filter is a helpful add-on, making sure your coffee is not just tasty but also clean. The machine is also pretty compact, which is a big plus if you have limited counter space.
However, it’s not perfect. While it offers some programmability, it doesn’t have as many options as more expensive Jura models. Also, you can only brew one cup at a time, which might be a bit limiting for a household full of coffee enthusiasts.
All in all, the Jura E4 is a good entry-level option. It offers a taste of luxury coffee-making without breaking the bank. But if you’re looking for a machine with more features and settings and a milk frother, you might want to consider Jura’s more advanced models.
Pros
Aroma Grinder for better coffee flavor
Five specialty drinks
Some programmability features for customization
Cons
Limited brewing options compared to higher-end models
Only one cup at a time
No milk frother
4. E6
E6 highlights:
- Brews 11 drinks
- Dual spout design
- 63 oz water reservoir
Jura E6 has recently been upgraded. The new version can brew 11 coffee drinks: espresso, double espresso, coffee, double coffee, Americano, lungo, macchiato, cappuccino, cappuccino with an extra shot, milk foam, and hot water.
You can also choose between ten coffee strength levels, amount of milk foam, water temperature (three levels), and brewing temperature (three levels). The programmable options let you get the perfect coffee every time. You can choose which drink you want on the full-color TFT display.
The milk frother does a good job of creating soft and frothy milk for your cappuccino. Keep in mind you’ll have to make the espresso first and then add the milk, but the machine froths the milk for you.
If you’re a big cappuccino lover and are just getting into the world of being an at-home barista, this is the Jura machine for you. Keep in mind Jura E6 doesn’t have Fine Foam technology, which restricts latte potential and means no latte art 🙁
In terms of technology, it has an Aroma G3 grinder and Jura’s PEP feature, which wets the coffee grounds before extraction for high-quality drinks.
I liked that the water reservoir is 64 oz —significantly larger than the ENA series. The coffee ground container is also on the larger side — 9.9 oz. You can brew several drinks without having to refill water or coffee. You can’t use pre-ground coffee with Jura E6, which is an issue if you want a decaf cup of coffee from time to time. The water tank has a built-in water filtration system and cleaning modes that keep the espresso machine running like clockwork.
Finally, several users complain the E6 produces bitter coffee, which probably means the thermoblock or PID is subpar. Keep this in mind when making your coffee machine choice.
Pros
Great for cappuccino lovers
Large water reservoir
Aroma G3 grinder provides a smooth and consistent grind
Dual-spout
Cons
Lacks FFT for good lattes
No option to use pre-ground coffee
5. E8
E8 highlights:
- 16 coffee specialties
- Automatic milk frother
- Aroma G3 grinder with six settings
Jura E8 is our top choice for a Jura coffee machine. It has an impressive choice of 17 drinks: espresso, double espresso, coffee, double coffee, cappuccino, extra shot cappuccino, cafe barista, Americano, doppio, cortado, macchiato, latte macchiato, latte macchiato extra shot, flat white extra shot, milk foam, hot water.
Same as with Jura E6, E8 has a 64 oz water tank and a 10 oz coffee container. However, the main difference between them, apart from the larger drink variety on E8, is the Fine Foam Technology on E8.
The milk frother is automatic, and you can use the dial on the nozzle to fine-tune the milk texture. The frother had two chambers: one aerates the milk, and the second froths it again. This means you can choose between a fine froth for a latte or an airy one for a cappuccino. You can also heat the milk without frothing it.
This Jura machine has dual spouts, one which is for ristretto, espresso, and coffee and the other for milk-based drinks. Both spouts are adjustable, so you can fit different mugs. There’s no need to move your cup when making milk-based drinks. You can brew two espressos at the same time, but you can’t make two milk-based drinks.
I mentioned that the water tank is 64 oz. However, there’s room for improvement here. Jura E8 goes through a lot of water because it has its own automatic cleaning system, which purges extra water after each shot.
The LED screen makes the use of this Jura coffee maker easy. The screen lets you know when it’s time to clean the coffee machine, empty the coffee puck container, refill water, and more. There are also six buttons on the side, so you can choose them or the display. However, I noticed the E8 is a fingerprint magnet, so you may end up using the buttons more than the touchscreen.
Unlike E6, Jura E8 has a pre-ground coffee chute, which is useful when you want a decaf.
In terms of technology, Jura E8 has IPBAS, which means the coffee machine measures the amount of coffee you use and dispenses the correct amount of water. The result is consistent flavor and strength. There’s also the PEP, which pushes water through ground coffee in short pulses. The coffee grounds expand, and you have better extraction.
The Aroma G3 grinder dispenses 16g of beans per dose, on par with commercial espresso machines.
Finally, Jura E8 has a single thermoblock heating system, which means it can’t steam and brew simultaneously. Luckily, the wait time isn’t too long.
Pros
Large variety of espresso drinks
Puck container fits 16 pucks
Six grinder settings for good customization
Large LCD panel makes the use easy
Cons
Single boiler for brewing and steaming
Leaves fingerprints
6. S8
S8 highlights:
- Aroma G3 grinder with seven settings
- 15 specialty drinks
- Adjustable milk foam
Jura S8 belongs to the mid-range of the Jura coffee line-up. This coffee machine holds 10 oz of beans and has a 64 oz water tank, the same as the more affordable Jura E8. However, it brews fewer drinks — 15, compared to E8’s 17. Jura S8 brews espresso, coffee, ristretto, cappuccino, latte, macchiato, latte macchiato, flat white, milk foam, hot milk, hot water, and hot water for green tea.
The brewing process starts with the Aroma G3 grinder, which has seven settings, and continues with the IPBAS, which immerses the ground coffee in water, so the aroma is released. The IPBAS also calculates the water-to-coffee ratio. Then, the PEP pushes bursts of water through the coffee, which preserves the aroma and produces rich-tasting coffee.
Jura S8 has Intelligent Water System which uses RFID technology and a Claris smart filter. This keeps the water pure for high-quality coffee. Also, the S8 lets you know when it’s time to descale.
The S8 also has a larger color touchscreen compared to lower models. The touchscreen shows the eight most common drinks you make. S8 has impressive customization options. You can choose between 10 coffee strengths, program the amount of milk foam, and choose between three brewing temperatures and three water temperatures. You can also cancel or adjust the amount of milk foam during the pouring.
The touchscreen is easy to use. Simply press and hold the drink you want on display, and you can also tweak the options. You can rename the drinks, copy them, and even add new coffee recipes. You can even have two different presets for one drink, which is useful if you share your Jura coffee machine with other people who want the same drink but with different brewing parameters.
Jura S8 first pours milk or coffee, depending on the drink you’re making. For example, milk goes first in a latte macchiato but last in flat white, and Jura knows this and makes the drink accordingly, which isn’t the case with all super-automatic coffee machines. The milk goes straight from the machine into the cup without having to move the cup.
Overall, Jura S8 is an excellent coffee machine. The reason I give an advantage to E8 over the S8 is the larger coffee variety. Also, S8 has one more grinder setting than E8, but in reality, it doesn’t make much difference, so there’s no reason to pay more for S8.
Pros
Large touchscreen display
Milk system has adjustable microfoam
Aroma G3 grinder with seven settings
Cons
Has 15 drinks compared to E8’s 17
Shorter cup clearance compared to other Jura coffee machines
7. J8
J8 highlights:
- Sweet foam function
- P.A.G.2+ – grinder
- Coffee Eye smart cup sensor
The Jura J8 is a newer addition to the Jura coffee machine lineup. The J8 can make an impressive 31 coffee drinks, which is in line with the high-end Jura models, such as the Z and GIGA. The drinks include espresso, double espresso, coffee, double coffee, Americano, doppio, lungo, cortado, sweet cortado, macchiato, sweet espresso macchiato, caffe latte, caffe latte extra shot, sweet caffe latte, cappuccino, extra shot cappuccino, sweet cappuccino, flat white, flat white extra shot, sweet flat white, latte macchiato, latte macchiato extra shot, sweet latte macchiato, sweet latte, sweet latte extra shot, a portion of milk foam, sweet portion of milk foam, portion of milk, sweet portion of milk, hot water, and hot water for green tea. Whew, that was long.
Here’s the thing: Jura J8 is a great choice if you like sweet drinks. This is the first Jura machine that makes sweet foam. The Sweet Foam Function flavors your milk during the preparation. The machine has syrup attachments. You choose the type and the amount of syrup you want, and the machine does the rest. You can customize the flavor and intensity to suit your sweet tooth.
Another feature that Jura J8 comes with is the smart cup sensor called Coffee Eye. The machine has a sensor that detects the cup position and automatically chooses the selection of drinks you see on the display. For example, do you want regular coffee? Simply place your cup under the central spout, and the machine will immediately show this drink option.
J8 also has a Product Recognizing Grinder. Product Recognizing Grinder is Jura’s best grinder available in Z and GIGA models. But it gets even better. J8’s grinder is P.A.G. 2 +-, which is even more advanced compared to the Z10 model.
All of you F1 fans out there can brag your coffee machine has F1 tech — the J8’s grinder has a sound design inspired by the F1 technology (Jura doesn’t explain how this affects the grinder sound exactly). The grinder has aroma control, which recommends the settings that best suit your coffee beans. This ensures the best aroma in your cup. You can also adjust the grind level both before and after brewing. Once the machine is done, the grinder enters rest mode, which Jura claims ensures optimal performance throughout its lifetime. This means better flavor for longer.
Overall, Jura J8 is a great choice if you like sweet drinks. Otherwise, my vote for the best value for money still goes to E8.
Pros
Self-cleaning milk system
The machine detects cup the position
Wide selection of coffee drinks, including sweet drink options
Cons
Can’t make two milk drinks simultaneously
The sweet foam feature drives the price up
8. Z6
Z6 highlights:
- 22 specialty drinks
- 10 milk frothing levels
- 81.2 oz water tank
We’re entering the big league of Jura coffee machines with Z6. This high-end machine makes spectacular coffee (at a spectacular price too).
It can make 22 especially coffees: espresso, coffee, Americano, lungo, macchiato, latte macchiato, all of which are available in double versions, espresso doppio, a jug of coffee, cappuccino, latte, flat white, a portion of milk, hot water, and hot water for green tea. You can move your favorite coffee to the front of the display, so Jura Z6 will make your favorite brew in under a minute.
Z6 has a highly functional tube-to-container milk system. There are 10 milk frothing levels to choose from, which guarantees great coffee however you like. Moreover, Z6 has a built-in milk cleaning system. However, you still need to rinse the tube under running water before going through a fairly long cleaning procedure in a separate cleaning container. Also, the milk cleaning system needs Jura’s milk cleaning solution, which adds to the price over time.
While the milk foam system is top-notch, it’s worth noting this Jura coffee maker only has one Thermoblock heating system, which means a short wait between steaming and brewing. Keep this in mind if you make a lot of milk-based drinks.
Z6 is a high-end Jura espresso machine that comes with all the important Jura technology. There’s the PEP system, multi-level Aroma G3 grinder, and JOE app compatibility. It also has AGA (Automatic Grinder Adjustment), which readjusts the grinder over time. It calculates the optimum grind for your coffee, so your coffee beans are always consistently ground. I couldn’t explain exactly how it knows to recalibrate, but that’s Jura technology for you.
The water tank capacity is 81.2 oz, which is the largest so far. It sounds gigantic, and the large capacity is good, considering how much water Z6 uses throughout the day. I liked that the water tank is removable from the front of the machine, so you can put it up against a wall without issues. Considering this isn’t a small machine by any means, front-loading makes the use and storage handy.
Pros
RFID system makes maintenance easy
Ten foam settings make it easy to create your favorite drinks
Huge water tank
Coffee spout can be raised high to fit tall mugs
Cons
Expensive
Takes up a lot of counter space
9. Z10
Z10 highlights:
- Cold Extraction Process
- 32 specialty drinks
- Product Recognizing Grinder
Jura Z10 is one of the newest Jura coffee machines. This model pioneers Jura’s Cold Extraction Process, which means it makes cold drinks. Z10 uses the PEP system, which pulses cold water through the coarse coffee grounds using high pressure. The result is a refreshing cold drink with fruity aromas without too much bitterness.
Here’s the list of all 32 drinks Jura Z10 makes: espresso, coffee, cafe barista, Americano, espresso doppio, jug of coffee, cortado, macchiato, caffe latte, cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato. All of these are available in double and cold drink versions. Z10 also makes Caffe lattes, cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato extra shot, a portion of milk foam, a portion of milk, hot water, and hot water for green tea.
Cold brew drinks are also possible thanks to the Product Recognizing Grinder (P.R.G), which recognizes the specialty drink and adjusts the fineness or coarseness of the grounds. The P.R.G. adjusts grind consistency in a fraction of a second. The grinding adjustment is automatic, so you don’t have to worry about having the correct grinds for your coffee. This takes care of the guesswork and means less work for you.
You can also adjust the coffee settings and choose between 10 coffee strengths, three coffee temperatures, 10 milk foam, and temperature settings. I liked that dual spouts have both the height and the width adjustable, so you can fit any kind of mug under them without splashes.
Jura Z10 also has only one Thermoblock heating system and 3D brewing technology. This technology makes the water flow evenly through the ground coffee at multiple levels for maximum flavor extraction. The water tank is illuminated and has a capacity of 81 oz.
Z10 has a 4.3” touchscreen color display with Jura Cockpit maintenance status shown. This feature shows the machine’s cleaning, descaling, and filter status and the number of dispensed products.
The main downsides of this Jura espresso machine are its price, the large size, and that it doesn’t contain a milk container, which really should have been included considering the price.
Pros
Huge drink variety
Brews hot and cold drinks
Aluminum front plate
Quiet grinder
Cons
Very expensive
No milk container
10. GIGA 6
GIGA 6 highlights:
- Two grinders and two milk frothing systems
- 28 specialty drinks
- 88 oz water tank
Jura themselves call this machine their pride and joy, and I can see why. This is the best Jura has to offer. It has the build quality and premium features of Z10 and more.
GIGA 6 has two ceramic disc grinders, two heating systems, and two milk frothing systems. The grinders come with automatic adjustment, which ensures coffee perfection. The grinders have the Automatic Grinder Adjustment technology, which ensures maximum results over the entirety of the grinder’s life.
The two grinders allow you to use two different coffee varieties, individually or mixed together. You can choose the coffee mix in increments of 25% to make sure you always have the perfect coffee blend. For example, this means you can mix decaf and caffeinated bags of coffee. This makes it easier to experiment and find your ideal coffee blend.
GIGA 6 can brew 28 drinks, including espresso, coffee, caffe barista, Americano, cortado, macchiato, cappuccino, flat white, latte macchiato, a portion of milk foam, all of which are available in double versions, and espresso doppio, a jug of coffee, latte, hot water, and hot water for green tea.
GIGA 6 allows you to nit-pick the coffee settings to your heart’s content by customizing coffee strength, milk foam, brewing temperature, and water temperature. Moreover, this Jura machine has smart technology that resembles AI — the more drinks you make, the more it fine-tunes the drinks to your preferences. You can also view statistics about the drinks you make to track exactly how many cups of coffee you have a day.
GIGA 6 is one of the best espresso machines you can get. It allows you to hone into the minutiae of the brewing process. But do you really need a two-in-one super-automatic espresso machine? I guess not. The price tag is massive, and it isn’t worth it for an average home user.
This coffee machine is best for commercial settings and a busy office full of work lovers. The ability to prepare two specialty coffees at the same time with different coffee beans will eliminate all coffee-related office squabbles.
But, if you don’t plan to use it in an office, go for a more affordable E8 or S8, which are no less impressive, or go for Z10 if you want cold drinks.
Pros
Two grinders can brew two different bags of beans
AI technology remembers your preferences
Massive water tank
Made of aluminum
Cons
Bulky and heavy
The most expensive of all Jura machines
What to Consider When Buying a Jura Coffee Machine
Budget
Jura coffee machines are big investments, and the Jura coffee machine line-up has a wide range of price points which goes from about a thousand to several thousand dollars.
Entry-level Jura machines, such as ENA, start from just under a thousand dollars, followed by mid-range E and S at two to three thousand dollars. Finally, the premium range includes the Z and GIGA series, which go up to six thousand dollars.
Think about how much money you can realistically spend and which features are a must-have for you. In reality, lower-end Jura machines are excellent devices, but you’ll probably sacrifice some of the drink’s customizability.
Saving Tip: you can find refurbished Jura machines, which are close to new quality at a much lower price. We have a guide on refurbished espresso machines here, and they’re typically sold on Seattle Coffee Gear and 1st In Coffee.
Technologies Included
I talked about the most important Jura acronyms, which stand for Jura technology.
When choosing a Jura coffee maker, think about what kind of technology you need. For example, do you want the latest Aroma G3 grinder, or are you fine with the previous G2 version? Also, how important is drink programmability to you? The higher-end models, such as S8, Z10, and GIGA 6, let you create and save custom drinks, while E8 has Smart Mode, which lets you reorder the drinks on display.
I generally recommend finding a machine with the G3 grinder, since the grinder is very important for coffee quality. The P.E.P and I.P.B.A.S are also important for espresso quality.
Also, consider if you want to control the machine from your smartphone. This comes in handy for brewing coffee from your bed in the morning. But, if you don’t need this, go for a lower-model version that doesn’t have JOE app compatibility.
Drink Options
Jura espresso machines have pre-programmed settings, so you can make different types of coffee depending on the model.
Available drink options are a great way to narrow down which Jura coffee machine is best for you. Some Jura coffee machines only make espresso and black coffee, and there’s no option to make milk-based drinks, such as ENA 4.
Mid-range machines have about 10+ drink options, such as E8, which has 17, and higher-end devices have over 20. Jura Z10 has the highest number of drinks available — 32.
If you love your espresso, choose a basic model, but if you love to drink cappuccinos, lattes, and flat white, make sure to choose the machine with your favorite drinks.
Milk Frother
Apart from basic ENA models, all other Jura machines come with an automated milk frother. But not all milk frothers are equal.
For example, Jura includes an HP1 milk frother on Jura E6, which mostly creates thick foam for cappuccinos but isn’t suitable for other milk-based drinks. E8 has a more advanced HP3 milk frothing system, which lets you make microfoam for lattes or airy foam for cappuccinos. You can also adjust the settings during the frothing. The Z series has a frothing system that lets you choose between ten frothing levels.
Finally, some more advanced models, such as the S8, have a self-cleaning milk frother, so there’s less chance of milk curdling and less work for you.
Ease of Use and Programming
Generally, Jura espresso machines are heavy on technology. However, this technology doesn’t require much work on your part. For example, there are PEP, IPBAS, PRG, and several other functions that don’t really require any input from you. These functions are done automatically.
All Jura machines are automatic, and you can brew coffee with a touch of a button, so in terms of ease of use, it doesn’t get much easier than this. Depending on the model, Jura machines have more or less programming options, and you can customize your drink to your exact preferences.
Overall, you can brew coffee with a press of a button or choose to be more involved in the brewing process by customizing the brewing parameters.
What’s the Best Jura Machine for You?
You can’t go wrong with any Jura machine, but my vote for the best Jura coffee machine goes to E8. You get the most for your money, and it can’t be beaten in terms of value. It has an impressive selection of 17 drinks that will satisfy any coffee lover. E8 has Jura’s innovative technology, which includes wetting the ground coffee in pulses, dual spouts for brewing two espressos simultaneously, and Fine Foam technology that creates foam for lattes and cappuccinos.
